August 2019 Report: Analyzing 513,022 reservations with TravelgateX

TravelgateX, the B2B global tourism marketplace that manages more than 20K bookings daily and 2 billion hotel searches worldwide, has published a booking report based on 513,022 reservations made trough B2B platform in which, the top three countries are Spain in the first place with 27.04%; Italy (9.65%) and the United States (8.87%), followed by Portugal (6.29%), Greece (4.72%), France (4.14%), United Kingdom (3.13%), Thailand (2.9%), Turkey (2.77 %) and last but not least Germany with a (1.97%).

As for nationalities, the ones that traveled the most in August 2019 were:

  • Spanish 49,06%
  • English 12,42%
  • Italian 5,68%
  • North Americans 5,54%
  • Chinese 4,04%

The average price per reservation for the month of August is 688.21€, which shows an increase of 20.5% compared with 2018. The ADR also increased by 14.2%, remaining stable at 140.34€. If we look at the type of traveler, we can see that the most room reservations in August were made mainly by couples (49.5%) followed by group reservations (25.5%), families (15.7%) and single travelers (8.3%), and all of them booked their stays with an average of three months in advance.

The favorite Spanish communities in August

TravelgateX analyzed 119,175 hotel reservations made with an entry date between August 1 and 30. Interestingly, there is an increase of 1-night stay compared to last year. Some of those reservations (28%) were made more than three months in advance. The average price per reservation has also risen by 21% compared to last year (864.37€), as well as the ADR at 150€ with a 7.5% increase over 2018.

Couples (41%) are the ones who travel the most to Spain, followed by families (25%) and groups (25%). The nationalities that travel the most to Spain are in the first place the Spaniards themselves (61%), followed by the English (10.76%), Italians (4.65%), and Portuguese (3.46%).

The total hotel reservations in Andalusia was 27,722. The average price per reservation is 1,014.79€ which increased by 20% compared to 2018. The average stay is 5.1 nights and the stays were mainly booked by couples (36%), and families (34%) with 30 to 60 days in advance.

  • Balearic Islands 

In the Balearic Islands, the average stay in hotels is maintained at 6.2 nights where 29.2% of these reservations were made 30-60 days in advance and 25% with more than 90 days. The average price of hotel stays at 1,140€, an increase of 12.3% compared to August 2018. 50% of those reservations were made by couples; 24% by groups and a smaller percentage by families.

The nationalities that most visited the islands were the Spaniards (43%), followed by the English (18%), Italians (11.93%) and Germans (5.01%). Finally, and as a note, the ADR has risen by 6.7% over the same month last year, remaining at 169.59€.

  • Catalonia

En agosto 2019 Cataluña es visitada en mayor porcentaje por parejas (38,9%), grupos (26,4%), familias (25,9%). Por nacionalidades, españoles e ingleses son los que más recorren y pasean. La estancia media en los hoteles de Cataluña es de 5,2 noches y el precio medio es de 824.34€, sube un 19,7% respecto al mismo mes pero del año anterior. El ADR también sube un 9.4% quedándose en 145.46€. Las reservas se realizan principalmente (31,5%) con una antelación entre 30 y 60 días.

As for their nationalities, the Spaniards and English are the ones who visit it the most. The average stay in hotels in Catalonia is 5.2 nights and the average price is 824.34€, an increase of 19.7% compared to the same month of the previous year. ADR also has risen by 9.4% (145.46€). Finally, 31.5% of the reservations were made 30 to 60 days in advance.

August’s Long Weekend: Andalusia and Madrid the favorite destinations

August’s long weekend is just around the corner, and the Spaniards want to take advantage of these dates to travel and take a well-deserved rest. TravelgateX, the worldwide B2B tourism connections marketplace, has extracted this data from its Insights-X tool to know the trends of the month.

Between August 14 and 17, a total of 4,031 reservations have been registered, mainly by Spaniards. They have mainly chosen to travel to Spanish cities, but also to other European cities and international countries.

When planning their long weekend, 30% of Spaniards prefer to do it with 90 days in advance, proving that they would rather not to leave anything for the last minute. At least 52% of those reservations have been booked by couples and 31% by groups. The ADR of these reservations is 117€, and the average price is 253.53€ with an average stay of 1.9 nights.
